Frequently asked questions
Does it work on any body of water?
Yes — with or without network coverage. That independence is a design choice, not a side effect: nothing on board waits for a signal.
What equipment do I need?
Very little, and for the most part nothing specific to the marine world. For the coaching: a GPS, an anemometer and a speaker; a compass and a barometer refine the measurement. The whole boat fits in about $1,000 of mostly generic sensors, and every reading goes through a normalisation step that makes it compatible with the rest of the system. For Navigatek Juge and Navigatek Meteo, a phone is enough. Already have marine instruments? Their integration (NMEA 2000) is on the roadmap.
Is it only for racing boats — and only certain sizes?
It is a high-end solution made for racers, but it serves just as well for learning performance sailing.
Can I use it on a catamaran?
Some of the algorithms carry over.
How do I receive the coaching in real time?
By audio — through a speaker in the cockpit, spoken aloud while you sail.
What happens if a sensor fails?
The system degrades rather than serving something false: it drops back to a source it can still trust, and it says so out loud. A wrong number is worse than a missing one.
Is there a subscription, or per-token billing?
No. The AIs run on hardware dedicated to you, on board or remotely — so the cost of a race does not grow with how much you use it.
Does the race data stay mine?
Yes. Everything runs on the hardware dedicated to you, on board or remotely: your logs, your tracks and your reports stay where you put them.
What runs on board, and what runs remotely?
Your choice, and everything can already run on board, with no network at all: sensors, recording, AI and voice. If there is network on the water, the AIs can also run remotely. In the licensed version, the hardware that runs it all is supplied and dedicated to you — neither ours nor a public cloud — and nothing is billed per token. It updates itself, at the right moment, as soon as it is back on the network.
